my Steam Halloween sale picks 2020

So I thought I'd do a list of my picks for games people might be interested in for the Steam Halloween sale and a brief description of them

So let's get started shall we?

This is a weird one to recommend because it comes with the caveat that the game is fairly rough round the edges, it's functional but there are some things that you will likely stick out to you and might find yourself getting irritated by them. It's nothing series but mostly user experience / usability issues like map orientation issues and overlapping controls.

However the game is worth playing for what I'd say is a pretty good atmosphere and intriguing story with multiple endings. This really does feel like a true Indie made Silent Hill game and doesn't throw some overly complex set of mechanics at you right away either. Plus at 90% off and selling at $1 in the sale it's well worth that price

References to old 80s slasher films some of which are cult hits and franchises still going today or other cult classics all wrapped up in a Voxel art puzzle game. The game sees you controlling the killer having to kill all the victims on each stage and get to a special mark to exit the level. As you can only slide along until you hit something you have to figure out how to kill all the victims while avoiding being caught by the police or ending up being killed by one of the other traps about.

Which huge amounts of puzzle to keep you going back such as the delete scene puzzles for each of the sets of levels plus the additional harder puzzles for each set of levels and a ton of different killers to unlock and kill animation sequences to get the game. I've put in 18.3 hours including some hours on DLC levels and I've only just started the deleted scene puzzles really.

It's 66% off for the standard version or 69% off for the edition with all the killer skins and an extra level pack though those aren't really that needed.

A game I consider really chilling as it builds up such a feeling of isolation, desperation and to an extent paranoia as you try to survive and get back to humanity. It really feels like it taps into a sort of primal set of fears humans still have (at least I still seem to have) such that the minimalist pixel graphics don't matter you still will jump at least once when the shrill cries of a bird pierce the sounds of wind and background score. The fear here isn't some monster it's nature, it's wolves, it's just trying to survive to the next day. The game has its issues particularly not being great at actually teaching you how to survive and some of the tricks you can use in game to help or how to get specific resources more easily but it shouldn't take that long to learn. I wrote a longer review of the thing if you feel you want to know more but it's worth saying it impressed me enough to get into my hall of fame. Otherwise Alone is 51% off in the sale dropping the price to $0.49

Simple idea, what if final destination but you were in charge of trying to set up the chain of events? It can get a bit silly and trial and error in later levels but for the price I found it enjoyable enough when I reviewed it. It's presently 80% off on Steam dropping it down to $0.50

Well they say if you can't beat them join them so in a year where we're all dealing with newest nasty infectious disease Plague Inc lets you join the side of the diseases and play out a variety of scenarios to see how quickly you can destroy all humanity with a variety of pathogens including the zombie virus and vampire viruses. It's also good for showing how precautions such as wearing masks and washing hands have been known about to slow the spread of disease long before Covid-19 and it's not some huge conspiracy by the governments of the world to make people into cyborgs. It's 60% off in the Steam Halloween Sale dropping the price to $5.99

You play Francis Finkelstein former manager of the popular horror themed music group The Dead Beats and years after all the band are thought to have died you get invited to a re-union event at a strange out of the way town called Wailing Heights. One problem, you almost immediately get arrested for the criminal offence of being alive in what turns out to be a town of the undead. Thus begins a sort of point and click style game with comedy elements where you have to try to escape jail by finding some-one to verify who you are and why you're there. As it turns out The Dead Beats may be dead but that wasn't the end for them. It's 80% off taking it down to $1.99 for the standard or 83% off taking it down to $3.37 for the deluxe edition that includes the soundtrack, artbook, script book and PDF copies of the rather nice comic book sequences used in the game, I honestly recommend getting the deluxe version if you can.
